I have been there many times over the years to Hong Kong and this last trip full of cultural surprises and new culinary adventures. to get in line with my subject outside my comfort zone this year, I shook things up and had a new hotel in another part of town, trying everything new.

STAY
I would like to bounce back the 15-hour flight to The Upper House. The place is perfect. Of course, it did not hurt that they upgraded me upon arrival to a 1000 square foot suite.

(American Express Platinum Card, Get on it! Y'all.) To see from my arrival in a Lexus hybrid RH450 with full moon roof of the Hong Kong skyline, Wi-Fi, so I could with my FaceTime daughter, I was hooked.
The check-in was in the room where a large tote bag full of wrapped gifts waiting for me (swear), and the minibar (or more rightly called, Maxi bar) had free treats, sodas, beer and juices for my enjoyment. A huge glass jar of M & Ms, anyone? And yes, I said FREE.

The room was such a Zen paradise that I am not good enough to be Wordsmith justice. I slept never been better and that is a statement about the jet lag was testing.
The upper house is redefining the guest experience. Instead of a reception and concierge services, their staff is knowledgeable on many issues and is encouraged to go the extra mile. A personal number did just that. When I asked at a dinner spot he literally walked out the front door (without telling anyone!) And accompanied me the curve down, across the street to a neighborhood restaurant. I can promise you will feel at home here and will probably not want to leave. Flawless.

I've been many times to Hong Kong before and always stay at the Intercontinental on the Kowloon side. The views of Victoria Harbor are staying alone is worth and I'd be lying if I said I did not miss those 6:00 Tai Chi classes at the pool.

EAT
The China Club has a dress code (love that) and a devilishly good restaurant. Cubed fillet with fried garlic chips is a house favorite and mine too. Stay for tea show in the main dining room, where a man "punched" pour his teapot while tea, and watch the chef throwing dough sky high and make noodles out of it. , , with your fingers.

I love Hutong as much for its cuisine as its traditional Peking decor. I am a repeat offender, you will be too.

For a more casual lunch Zen try for Dim Sum in a mall atmosphere. Or go on site and eat the best dumplings and noodles in the fabric market on the Kowloon side. Unfortunately, the name printed only in Chinese characters is (= real deal!), But find it at 192 Tai Nan Street in Sham Shui Po District. Formerly housed under a tarp on the street, is this delicious noodle bar "become rich" and now a restaurant environment has inside. , , good for them, but I miss a chair in the street!

I would go for a rooftop drink before dinner to Sevva and try Zuma prepared in an open kitchen setting Sushi. After too many dumplings you something from home his desire, so try Gaia for a green salad and a thin crust pizza.

After the light show from Kowloon to watch and the Canton Road on foot, I took the Star Ferry back to Central and dipped in Inagiku for dinner at the Four Seasons Hotel. An instant favorite with harbor views and a Tempura and Tappanyaki bar. I learned how tempura, the Chinese way of eating (with two varieties of salt) and the Hong Kong fashion (with tempura dipping sauce).

DO
transport take! I was impressed by the cars, trams, Star Ferry and the MTR. A good way to easy to use the city.
to see The trip highlight was the wonderful view of the Big Buddha on Lantau Island and the wonderful cable car ride to get there for me. I just wish I had known that you can walk with the Buddha. , , The trail winds green hill on wooden bridges, stairways and earth. Make a day trip there and hike the peak in nature take and views. , , a nice break from the city lights.

Take the junk out for a sail on Victoria Harbor and be sure to see every night the light show from the Kowloon side at 20.00. Back in Central I went endlessly through the Soho and Lan Kwai Fun quarters of the local market is already enjoying on the Hollywood street and to Pott Lane, where I bought my daughter tiny bows for their hair.

I did not this trip, but seen from the top of the tram Hong Kong, is a must. Go at dusk, when you see all the lights.
After a long day be sure foot check-out (yes, that's really the name) on the street Central Queen for an authentic reflexology treatment. A fun Hong Kong experience to have your feet, rubbed while lounging in a dark room with a dozen other people in a deckchair. I went twice.

SHOP
I love the local markets and Stanley Market is ideal for tourists on silk pj, jade objects and other Chinese trinkets. want
stock up if you are a serious fashion then taken by all Lane Crawford, Joyce and Harvey Nichols. All vacation windows were beautiful and vied Fifth Avenue back home. (Loved a full dress complete with train made of red clothes pins!)
