Airport layovers can be a blessing or a curse
There are basically four types of delay -.
1. planned or unplanned domestic flight delays
2. domestic international delay
3. Trans World stoppage and
4. Chicago O'Hare.

I have endless unplanned hours in purgatory from the airport in Chicago O'Hare during slow flight layovers this summer. Like every time a plane I was touched at O'Hare I was struck with 3+ hour delays. 50% of it courtesy of United Airlines, 50% of it was due to weather.
a word to the wise: If you have a connecting flight that you urgently need to make, to avoid both United Airlines and Chicago O'Hare like the plague. Each is bad enough on their own, together they have a nightmare .

Some survival tips for layovers :.

Walk
endless sitting around you any good. Take a walk in the terminal not only gives you a chance to see what's on offer, but also stretch your legs feel great after-hours cooped up on a plane.

Other airports (especially European children) have a major public transport, so you can buzz in town and wandered around for a few hours, see something new, give yourself a mental break.

One of my then flew very dear friends Cape Town recently and had a 10 hour layover in Munich, so she breathed in the city, have a good look around and the eat a big meal before heading back to the airport feeling completely fresh.

The worst thing you can do with a very long delay is just stay inside the terminal, waiting your gate. You will anger by the time you have to catch your next flight feel.
