Wyoming, Cheyenne - Report by Addison. Today, we will give information about Casa Cuseni, Taormina .
since I took my first steps on Sicilian soil, I have been obsessed with the place.
is the wonderful, mysterious and beautiful. Uncannily beautiful.
, but with a dark secret to it.
I just can't get enough.
as such, I read books about Sicily, books in Sicily, fiction, fiction-anything I can get my hands on.
one of the absolute treasures I found was a book called " a house in Sicily " by Daphne Phelps.
this is an autobiography that takes place in the beautiful Taormina, with views of the Ionian Sea. A picturesque small town that keeps my heart, or that perhaps I hold in my heart. Not sure which ones.
Daphne lived in boring old England, damp and grey, and inherited a magnificent home built by her uncle in the sun drenched Taormina.
, she moves to Sicily, and this is her story of life on the Casa Cuseni.

writers and artists stop by and stay for weeks and months.
she can handle the trials and tribulations of life in this small mountain town, at the same time basking in the glory of living in a place more beautiful than words can describe.
Casa Cuseni, Taormina Sicily |
great reading for lovers of Under The Tuscan Sun and
a year in Provence .
a year in Provence .
her home, Casa Cuseni, remains the star of the story, it is the beauty of perpetual under text.
Casa Cuseni, Taormina Sicily |
back to Taormina in the year I was determined to find the
Casa Cuseni.
Casa Cuseni.
which was actually very easy.
Daphne died in 2005 and wanted the House to her nieces as the preferred the rain in the United Kingdom to the Sun in Sicily, and chose to sell it instead of moving.
I would give almost anything to move there and own that home! I can not believe they let it go.
the new owners have made it a bed breakfast &, and was more than happy to let me come visit, and look around.

a lot of it has been kept as it was in the book.
daphnes taxes are still there, her passport and personal papers.
Salvatore at the Casa Cuseni |
my host for the day, Salvatore Spadro , showed me a lot of the assets she talks about in his book.
we wandered through art filled rooms and gardens, Salvatore fill me in on the story behind each room, each piece of art, each corner of the beautiful garden.

we sat on the patio taking in the view while he told more stories.

it was just magical.
when we were going to leave he asked if I would like to see Picasso.
Picasso had lived at the Casa Cuseni, and left the works he painted while he was there.
I still can't quite believe i was able to spend quality time with Picasso who do not live in any museum, which is not featured in any coffee table books. That pretty much no one else see.
If you plan to travel Sicily , look into staying at the Casa Cuseni in Taormina for a few days.
it's just 6 bedrooms, so they can order out long in advance, but you can send them directly (casacuseni@gmail.com) and see what openings they have.
