Venice Dorsoduro ~
when my thoughts wander to Venice, as they do regularly, they go straight to my favorite of the sestieri (the neighborhood), the beautiful Dorsoduro.

for me this is the most wonderful neighborhood, brilliant with historic buildings, wonderful churches, picturesque small squares and channels. Walking around in the is Dorsoduro you get the concept of what Venice really. It's just the most amazing experience, so incredibly beautiful, and compared to the manic tourist explosion around Saint Mark's square right over the Grand Canal, it feels relatively tourist free. Or at least the tourist tolerable.
are the two major art attractions in Dorsoduro, the Galleria Dell ' Accademia and Collezione Peggy Guggenheim , each well worth a visit. Maybe my favorite place to visit is the spectacular Santa Maria Della Salute , white Baroque church stands watch over the entrance to the Grand Canal. As many times as I have visited Santa Maria Della Salute , it has never failed to catch our breath.

this House is now a "house museum", originally built in 1667 for the Bon family. When their money ran out the property was taken over by the newly wealthy banking family, the Rezzonicos somewhere around 1758. At the time was building two separate houses in complete disrepair. Rezzonicos bankrolled a brilliant restoration that included Tiepolo frescoes and Flemish tapestries-mind bendingly flashy palazzo gives you a look into the lavish life of upper class 1700 Venice.
restored again in 1990 Ca ' dei Frari is known as the "Museum 1700 Venice", it's interior. The stairs from the first floor to the graceful sweeps the piano nobile, with its Grand Ballroom, so ornate literally stops you in your tracks.

meandering through the lounges have to remind yourself that this was not a Royal Palace, rather than a private home.
the wealth does not stop there-two more floors hold works of art including Tiepolos and the only Canaletto's in Venice.
before you leave make sure you visit the beautiful courtyard garden.
another must see in the Dorsoduro is Campo Santa Margherita .

this is the neighborhood is the market , and may be the liveliest in Venice. Day busy with customers, locals, families, the daily market, interesting shops, bars and restaurants, it is a lovely place to sit on the tree shaded benches and watch local life happen. At night, this is the social centre of the city. While most of Venice go quietly, Campo Santa Margherita where nightlife happens, populated by students from the nearby University and bright young people from all parts of the city. Bars and restaurants are fun, and it's definitely a great night.
